 Course Overview

The Business Management Program prepares students to a wide variety of careers in Accounting, Business, and Economics; it also prepares students in the Business Management Programs of: 1) Business Management Insurance Program; 2) Business Management Office Assistant Program; 3) Business Management Real Estate Program; and 4) Business Management Small Business Management Program.

The Business Management Programs include the following Degrees:
Accounting, Business Economics

Associates of Arts Degree (Two-Year Degree)
The Associates of Arts in Accounting, Business and Economics prepares students who will transfer directly into a Bachelor’s Degree Program in Accounting, Business and/or Economics to a wide variety of careers in Accounting, Business, Economics and industry. The course in this Associates of Arts in Accounting, Business, and Economics are widely transferable to Texas colleges and universities and other institutions of Higher Education and will count toward graduation in any Accounting, Business, or Economics major, including all Accounting, Business, and Economics specializations. The students who plan to major in Accounting, Business, and Economics may take some of the following courses as both Core Curriculum requirements and Associate of Applied Science Degree requirements.

General Information

Graduation Requirements
El Paso Community College offers Associate of Applied Science Degree. EPCC also, offers Certificates of Completion. You have the choice of meeting the degree requirements as outlined in the College Catalog in effect when you first enrolled at EPCC, or you may choose to follow a degree plan from a later Catalog. However, you have five years from the date of the Catalog selected to complete your program. If it takes you longer than that, you will be given a new degree plan from the new College Catalog.

Business Management Insurance Program
Associates of Applied Science Degree (Two-year Degree)
Certificate of Completion (One Year Program)

Specific Requirements for Associate of Applied Science Degrees

  • To graduate with an Associate of Applied Science Degree, you must have a minimum of sixty (60 semester hours of college level credit, of which at least (6) credit hours in the declared major are taken at EPCC (25% of semester-credit hours must be fulfilled for residency).
  • A cumulative grade point average of at least 2.0, which is a grade of “C”, is required for all course work applied toward a degree at EPCC. Many colleges and universities will not accept a “D” in a transfer and you will need to take the class again at that school.
  • You must successful complete an approved program. Programs offered prior to 2012-2013 have expired. In this case, you will need to select an updated degree plan based on enrollment for the 2013-2014 or later.
  • You must make formal application for graduation on the form furnished by the Registrar’s Office. Without the formal application, your academic record will not reflect completion of a degree or certificate, only the accumulation of credit hours.

Special Requirements for Certificates of Completion

  • If you wish to complete a certificate in a program which has semester-hour values for the course, you must take all the courses required in the certificate plan which are outlined in the College Catalog.
  • You need to have a cumulative grade point average of 2.0 or above for those coursed applied toward the certificate. When you complete your certificate program, you must make formal application for graduation on the form furnished by the Registrar’s Office. Without formal application, your academic record will not reflect completion of the certificate, only the accumulation of credit hours.

Areas of Study include: Small Business; Business Ethics; Computer Application; Insurance; Office Procedures; Real Estate; Business Statistics; Accounting; Introduction to Business; and Introduction to Management.

Places of Employment include but are not limited to: fortune 500 Companies; Trading Companies; Consulting Firms; Utilities; Small Business; U.S. Government.

Salary Ranges (Entry Level) include but are not limited to: $25,500 in Texas; $36,000.00 Nationwide; $41,000.00 Experienced (average salaries/U.S. Department of Labor Statistics).


The full program can be taken at the Valle Verde campus, but the 30 credit hours of transfer courses can be taken at any of EPCC’s 5 campuses.

Students’ area of study will include accounting, economics and business topics in both a national and international environment. The business topics will include communications, human resource management, advertising, business law, practical work experience in a business workplace, and a capstone course in small business management that will help students tie it all together for greater understanding and application.
