Tejano Alert Instructions

When an emergency occurs the TejanoAlert system powered by Skytel software can send text messages to students and employees in as little as 90 seconds.

Applicable Situations

TejanoAlerts will be sent in emergencies that require unscheduled closure or evacuation of a campus or the district. This includes but is not limited to weather closures, power outages, police emergencies, catastrophes and/or hazardous exposures. TejanoAlerts will not be used for promotional purposes or for scheduled closures, such as holidays.

Support

Operational or administrative concerns regarding the system will be managed by the EPCC Police Department.  You may call 831-2200 with your questions.  Call the IT Service Center at 831-6440 with technical questions regarding your subscription.

TejanoAlert Subscriptions

To receive TejanoAlerts, students and employees must subscribe to the system online and enter their preferences. Changes can be made at any time. Users must first provide their email address and, after a message with a one-time password is sent to them, they can add their 10-digit cell phone number.  At that point, they can delete their email address leaving just their cell phone number to receive emergency instructions and information.  The subscription is free but standard text message charges from your cell phone provider will apply.  The database of those who have signed up to receive EPCC emergency notices via TejanoAlert will have to subscribe twice each year:  once during the Fall semester and once during the Spring Semester.  Just prior to the beginning of Fall and Spring semesters, the database of subscribers will be purged.  This action is taken so that students and employees who have left the College but failed to unsubscribe themselves are removed from the system.  EPCC also distributes emergency information and instructions via student and employee email messages, the College Home page, and local television and radio announcements.

Subscribing

  1. Go to the TejanoAlert log-in page in an additional browser window or tab. It might be useful to jump between the two windows as you complete your registration.
  2. In the welcome screen, click below the fields for Email and Password where is says “Please register if you do not have an existing login.”

  1. Enter a valid email address in the email field.  Once registered, users can add cell numbers or additional email addresses.

  1. Check the box to agree to the Terms & Conditions, then click the “Submit” button.

Setting Preferences

  1. An email will be sent to your email account within minutes. This email will contain your initial password, which you will need to setup your account.
  2. Reopen the log-in/welcome screen and enter your email address and password to enter.

  1. Now you select how and where you prefer to receive TejanoAlerts. Your email address will be pre-populated, but since EPCC already broadcasts alerts to Smart Start Net and Exchange email accounts, retaining this email alert would be redundant. To change this selection to a text message, click on the (edit) link.

  1. In the “Update Notification Address” window, select “Text” to setup to receive text messages, enter your 10-digit cell phone number without dashes, parentheses or periods in the address field and click the “Update Address” button to complete.

  1. After updating your address information, be certain your preferences are selected accurately, click "Save Selection" and then logout.
  2. You may have the alert message sent to your cell phone as a digitized voice message.  To do this, click on "Create New Address"; change the "Type of Address" to "Voice"; type your cell phone number in the "Address" box; and click on "Create Address".  Verify your selections and click "Save Selection" before logging out.
