Placement Testing

Counseling StudentOne of the very first steps new college students must undertake is placement testing. Soon after applying to EPCC, students will need to take the Texas Success Initiative Assessment (TSI) test unless they are exempt or have taken this test recently at another institution. This test will help determine each student’s preparation level in English, Math and Reading. Depending on test scores, a student may need to register for developmental courses in one or more of these subjects.

 Testing Strategies

Here at EPCC, counselors and advisors understand that testing can often be a source of anxiety, stress, and uncertainty. The Counseling Department is here to provide students with test interpretation, referrals, and recommendations for retesting or tutoring as well as a variety of ideas and techniques to help students perform well. If you are overwhelmed with the idea of testing or want some suggestions on improving test performance and reducing test anxiety, please come in and see a counselor at any of our campus locations.
