The Risk Management Institute at the EPCC, thanks to a generous donation by Texas Mutual Insurance Company, was created to offer seminars on worker’s health and safety for employers, employees, and the general public.

The seminars include a wide variety of risk management/safety topics. These courses range from general safety topics, such as back safety, ergonomics, fall protection and OSHA standards, to specific topics such as Introduction to Safety Management, Confined Spaces, HAZCOM, Drug and Alcohol Awareness for Supervisors, H2S Certification and CPR/First Aid & Blood-Borne Pathogens.

All courses are held at various locations at the El Paso Community College and are free of charge.

The purpose of this course is to focus on techniques for gathering complete, accurate and objective accident data used to arrive at true root causes and determine corrective action. This course provides an introduction to basic accident investigation procedures and describes accident analysis techniques. The goal of the course is to help participants gain the basic skills necessary to conduct an effective accident investigation at their workplace. To further examine and analyze data as a means of preventing injuries, property damage and financial losses. Upon successful completion of this course, the participant will be able to perform an effective accident investigation.
Advanced Training for the Workplace Hazardous Materials 4 hour Safety CourseUse SHIFT+ENTER to open the menu (new window).
This course meets the requirements for workers at hazardous waste sites. This course is designed for general site workers who remove hazardous waste or who are exposed or potentially exposed to hazardous substances or health hazards. The course covers topics pertaining to workplace hazards associated with Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER). Topics include HAZWOPER regulations, site characterization, toxicology, hazard recognition, personal protective equipment, decontamination, and emergency procedures. Upon successful completion of the course you will receive a certificate of completion.

The 4 Hour Advanced Training for the Workplace HAZMAT Program is intended to provide workers with some safety responsibility at a greater depth and a variety of training. Training is intended to cover an overview of the hazards a worker may encounter on a construction site and services industry. Training emphasizes hazard identification, avoidance, control and prevention.

This course satisfies requirements set forth by The National Fire Safety Board, PHMSA Regulations and general hazardous materials regulatory requirements. The purpose of this course is to promote workplace safety and health and to make workers more knowledgeable about workplace chemical hazards and their rights. The course will focus on reporting and regulatory enforcement. The course will give students insight into the various hazardous material standards related to construction work and services industry by examining each standard closely. A secondary goal of this course is learn the role of the Competent Person for the various construction and services Haz Mat Safety Standards.
 
The 4 Hour Hazardous Materials Safety Training Program is intended to provide workers with some safety responsibility at a greater depth and a variety of training. Training is intended to cover an overview of the hazards a worker may encounter on a construction site and services industry. Training emphasizes hazard identification, avoidance, control and prevention.

This 4-hour training program provides participants with the knowledge to identify the different types of hazardous materials, their potential hazards during transportation/storage, and the use a Safety Data Sheets and other resources to minimize safety/health risks. Participants will also learn how to identify the released material, how to use available resources for preparedness, and how to notify proper authorities in the event of a hazardous material emergency.
 
The course will give students an overview of the Hazwoper regulatory standard, hazardous material classes, loading and unloading, segregations charts, Hazard Communication standard, and elements of a Safety Data Sheet.
 
The purpose of this course is to introduce participants to the HAZWOPER standard, per OSHA 1910.120.

The purpose of this course is to promote workplace safety and health and to make workers more knowledgeable about workplace hazards and their rights. To provide students with information and skills necessary to work safely in the Construction Industry. This course will give students insight into the various OSHA Standards related to Construction work by examining each Standard closely. A secondary goal of this course is learn the role of the Competent Person for the various Construction Safety Standards.
 
The OSHA 10 Hour Construction Training Program is intended to provide an entry level construction worker’s general awareness on recognizing and preventing hazards on a construction site. The 4-hour training program is intended to provide participants the general knowledge to determine the necessity for PPE; the proper donning, doffing, adjustment, and wearing of PPE; limitations of PPE, and proper care, maintenance, useful life, and disposal of PPE.
 
This course examines the importance of PPE as a means of protecting individuals from workplace hazards, and describes common hazards and the different types of PPE which can be used for the protection of the head, hands, eyes, and feet.
 
The course will familiarize participants with OSHA regulations affecting the use of PPE, and will provide the skills to maintain and clean equipment.

The purpose of this course is to promote workplace safety and health in the Residential Home Construction Industry and to make workers more knowledgeable about workplace hazards. To provide students with information and skills necessary to work safely when building homes. The course will give students insight into the various OSHA Standards related to Residential Construction work hazards by examining the OSHA Standards relevant to that specific industry. A secondary goal of this course is to learn the role of the Competent Person for the various Residential Construction Safety Standards.

The purpose of this course is to promote workplace safety and health in the Restaurant Industry and to make workers more knowledgeable about workplace hazards. To provide students with information and skills necessary to work safely in a restaurant setting. The course will give students insight into the various OSHA Standards related to Restaurant Areas and Kitchen work hazards by examining those Standards relevant to that specific industry. A secondary goal of this course is to train the students in the recognition of the Top 4 restaurant hazards such as lacerations and punctures, burns, sprains and strains and eye injuries.

The 4-hour course program is intended to provide an overview of risk management from the safety and health program perspective and to improve safety and health programs using risk management principles.
 
The purpose of this course is to provide an overview of risk management from the safety and health program perspective.  Specific topics covered will include introduction to risk management; key terminology; describing and applying the risk management process; and suggested strategies for improving safety and health programs using risk management principles.
 
The course will give students insight into: How an organization’s enterprise risk is identified and analyzed; How risk management alternatives are evaluated; How the most desirable option is selected; Implementation of selected risk management techniques; Suggested strategies for adapting programs to the risk management organizational environment.
