Dr. John E. Uxer has been a member of the El Paso Community College Board of Trustees since 1998. He represents District 1.
After a period of service with the U.S. Army, Dr. Uxer retired as a Colonel and began his career in education. He has served as a teacher, superintendent, counselor and principal throughout West Texas and New Mexico. He taught at the middle school, high school and college level. He served as the Executive Director of the Region 19 Education Service Center from 1968 to his retirement in 1993. Dr. Uxer is currently a professional parliamentarian, registered with the National Association of Parliamentarians. Dr. Uxer has also served as a parliamentarian for numerous large conventions and other entities.
He has been active in community service and numerous boards. He is the past president of the Rotary Club, served on the Education Committee of the El Paso Chamber of Commerce, served as the Executive Director of the legislative Finance Committee of the New Mexico Legislature, Chairman of the Charter Revision Commission of the City of El Paso, Board Member/Chairman of the Christian Education Coordinating Board and the Chairman of the El Paso City-County Committee for Consolidation of Tax Functions.
He received a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Agriculture, a Master’s of Arts degree in Vocational Education, Counseling and a doctorate in Educational Administration, Guidance and Psychological Services from New Mexico State University. He also did additional graduate study at Northwestern University. Dr. Uxer is a graduate of the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College and the Industrial College of the Armed Forces.
