 EPCC Sweeps Region V Cross Country Championships

The EPCC men and women won the NJCCA Region V and the Western Junior College Athletic Conference Cross Country championships on Saturday, October 26 at Levelland, Texas.

 

Two weeks ago at the NMJC Cross Country Open The Tejanas won with 31 points and the men finished second with 29 points.

 

The Tejanas came out even faster and won the Region and Conference championship with 25 points. Andrea Amaro won the 5K race with a time of 18:49.07 followed very closely by teammate Shannon Luevano who finished in 2nd place at 18:49.95.

 

 

The remaining Tejanas were:

EPCC Girls X-Country Team

 

New Mexico JC, New Mexico Military & Clarendon did not field a complete team.

 

After a second place finished two weeks ago to South Plains the Tejanos came out and made it a three peat winning the Region and Conference championship with 26 points to South Plains 31. This was the 5th time in 14 seasons that the Tejanos won the Region and conference.

 

The Tejanos were led by Ricardo de Santiago who finished 2nd with a time of 25:33.

The following were named to the WJCAC 2013 All-Conference Team: Women: Andrea Amaro, Shannon Luevano,  Brisa Carrillo and Mindy Rincon. Men: Ricardo de Santiago, Michael Grijalva, George Yator, David Colmenero and Rene Pena.

 

Up next for EPCC is the NJCAA Cross Country National Championships on November 9 at Fort Dodge, Iowa followed by the Half Marathon Championship on November 16 in Dallas, Georgia.
